He was talking about injecting a small amount of venom from the snakes over a long period of time and building up an immunity to it, not using his blood. Venom is injected and poison ingested just for future reference. Bill Haste did the same thing for many years and lived into his nineties I believe.
It's highly possible that the snakes are used to the habit of biting him and therefore do not inject venom or only a small amount of it. This guy is not a possible prey for them, so they give warning bites.

Antivenins are already made through horse blood with the same principal- inject enough into them to alter their blood and then extract the "immune" cells and create an anti-venom. Using human blood could create immense opportunities in this field. Stupid or crazy but this man is very passionate for the right reasons.
