This is naturally without tongue. The louse consumes and replaces the tongue. Must be horrible for the day, I do not remember any vertebrate without tongue, but there are lots of tongueless animals. Remember starfish's phylum, for example. I have caught a couple of Leather Jacket fish with huge white parasites in the softer gut area. Turns you off eating that fish instantly.
There is a whole family of frogs that do not have tongues. In fact, all thirty identified species of the pipped family, are toothless and completely aquatic, on top of having no tongue. Some species of snakes are known to consume themselves and die in the process also short tailed crickets eat their wings and sea squirts are also known for self cannibalism.

Can a female cat start nursing another cat's kittens if the natural mother can is not able? (perhaps dies or removed) I was told that the cat I adopted from a shelter had nursed kittens that weren't hers. Yeah, it is very possible especially when the adoptive cat just recently gave birth herself. We have a cat at home name Skitty, "who" actually adopted a stray kitten. That's right after she gave birth to her four kittens. Their motherly instincts kick in during those times making them caring. She is currently nursing all the kittens now.
